Prof. Benjamin W. Wah

Biography: Wah was born in Hong Kong and graduated from Queen Elizabeth School, Hong Kong. He received his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Columbia University, USA, then furthered his studies at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining an MS in Computer Science and a PhD in Databases.[1] Wah began his teaching career in Purdue University in 1979. He later joined the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1985, which he served until his retirement at the end of 2011. In 1985-2011, he was the Franklin W. Woeltge Endowed Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA. In 2008-2009, he also served as Director of the Advanced Digital Sciences Center in Singapore, a US$50 million research center established by the University of Illinois in Singapore in collaboration with the Singapore government's Agency for Science, Technology and Research. In 1998–1999, Wah was Chair Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and in that year received an Exemplary Teaching Award. From 1999 to 2003, he served as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at CUHK. Between 2009-2019, he served as Provost of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Wah is an expert on non-linear programming, multimedia signal processing and artificial intelligence. He has published numerous research articles in top professional journals, such as Artificial Intelligence, IEEE Trans. in Computers, IEEE Trans. on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, IEEE Trans. on Parallel and Distributed Technology, IEEE Trans. on Software Engineering, Journal of Global Optimization, Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research. He is also the author of two books, and Editor-in-Chief of Wiley's Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Engineering (published in 2008), and has contributed to many edited books and book chapters. He has served on many journal editorial boards. He also holds many Endowed Professorships and Honorary Professorships in leading universities in the United States of America and in Asia. Professor Wah was elected President of IEEE Computer Society in 2001. He was a member of the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong between 2005 and 2009 and Chairman of its Engineering Panel between 2006 and 2009. He has been a member of the HK Research Grants Council since 2011. Professor Wah has received numerous honors and awards for his distinguished academic and professional achievements, including the Tsutomu Kanai Award, the W. Wallace McDowell Award, and the Richard E. Merwin Distinguished Service Award, all from the IEEE Computer Society, the Pan Wen Yuan Foundation Outstanding Research Award, and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal. In 2011, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. He has been elected: Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery.
Prof. Xudong Jiang (Fellow IEEE)

Biography: Xudong Jiangreceived the B.Eng. and M.Eng. from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), and the Ph.D. degree from Helmut Schmidt University, Hamburg, Germany. From 1986 to 1993, he was a Lecturer with UESTC, where he received two Science and Technology Awards from the Ministry for Electronic Industry of China. From 1998 to 2004, he was with the Institute for Infocomm Research, A-Star, Singapore, as a Lead Scientist and the Head of the Biometrics Laboratory, where he developed a system that achieved the most efficiency and the second most accuracy at the International Fingerprint Verification Competition in 2000. He joined Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, as a Faculty Member, in 2004, and served as the Director of the Centre for Information Security from 2005 to 2011. Currently, he is a professor in NTU. Dr Jiang holds 7 patents and has authored over 150 papers with over 40 papers in the IEEE journals, including 6 papers in IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 11 papers in IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and 17 papers in Pattern Recognition. Three of his papers have been listed as the top 1% highly cited papers in the academic field of Engineering by Essential Science Indicators. He served as IFS TC Member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society from 2015 to 2017, Associate Editor for IEEE Signal Processing Letter from 2014 to 2018, Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing from 2016 to 2020 and the founding editorial board member for IET Biometrics form 2012 to 2019. Dr Jiang is currently an IEEE Fellow and serves as Senior Area Editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and Editor-in-Chief for IET Biometrics. His current research interests include image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision, machine learning, and biometrics.
Prof. Yonghui Li

Biography: Yonghui Li received his PhD degree in November 2002. Since 2003, he has been with the Centre of Excellence in Telecommunications, the University of Sydney, Australia. Li is now a Professor and Director of Wireless Engineering Laboratory in School of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Sydney. He is the recipient of theAustralian Research Council (ARC)Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship in 2008 andARC Future Fellowship in 2012. He is an IEEE Fellow for contributions to cooperative communications technologies. His current research interests are in the area of wireless communications, with a particular focus on IoT, machine to machine communicaitons, MIMO, millimeter wave communications, channel coding techniques, game theory, machine learning and signal processing. Li holds a number of patents granted and pending in these fields.
Professor Li is an editor for IEEE transactions on communications, IEEE transactions on vehicular technology and guest editors for several special issues of IEEE journals, such as IEEE JSAC, IEEE IoT Journals, IEEE Communications Magazine. He received the best paper awards from IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) 2014, IEEE PIMRC 2017, and IEEE Wireless Days Conferences (WD) 2014. He has published one book, more than 160 papers in premier IEEE journals and more than 100 papers in premier IEEE conferences. His publications have been cited more than 8000 times, with an h-index of 42. Six of his papers have been included as ISI high cited papers by ESI Web of Science, defined as top 1% of papers in the field. Several of his papers have been the top most 10 most cited papers in the respective journals since the year it was published.
Li has attracted more than $6 million in competitive research funding over the past 10 years, including 10 ARC grants. He has participated in $500 Millions Australia national demonstration project “Smart Grid Smart City” and designed last mile access networks. He is the founder and director of IoT undergraduate major at the University of Sydney.
Prof. Xiang-Gen Xia, Fellow IEEE

Biography: Xiang-Gen Xia (M'97, S'00, F'09) received his B.S. degree in mathematics from Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, China, and his M.S. degree in mathematics from Nankai University, Tianjin, China, and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1983, 1986, and 1992, respectively.
He was a Senior/Research Staff Member at Hughes Research Laboratories, Malibu, California, during 1995-1996. In September 1996, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware, where he is the Charles Black Evans Professor.
His current research interests include space-time coding, MIMO and OFDM systems, digital signal processing, and SAR and ISAR imaging. Dr. Xia is the author of the book Modulated Coding for Intersymbol Interference Channels (New York, Marcel Dekker, 2000).
Dr. Xia received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program Award in 1997, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Award in 1998, and the Outstanding Overseas Young Investigator Award from the National Nature Science Foundation of China in 2001. He received the 2019 Information Theory Outstanding Overseas Chinese Scientist Award, The Information Theory Society of Chinese Institute of Electronics. Dr. Xia has served as an Associate Editor for numerous international journals including IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. Dr. Xia is Technical Program Chair of the Signal Processing Symp., Globecom 2007 in Washington D.C. and the General Co-Chair of ICASSP 2005 in Philadelphia.
Prof. Yong Yue (Head of Department)

Bio: Yong Yue (BEng Northeastern China, PhD Heriot-Watt UK, CEng, FIET, FIMechE, FHEA) is currently a Professor and Director of the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC). He was Head of Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (2013-2019). Prior to joining XJTLU, he had held various positions in industry and academia in China and the UK, including Engineer, Project Manager, Professor, Director of Research and Head of Department.
Professor Yue has experience in learning and teaching, research and enterprise as well as management. He has led a variety of research and professional projects supported by major funding bodies and industry. He has also lead curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications and supervised 22 PhD students to successful completion.
Dr. Paul Craig
Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, China
Bio: Dr. Paul Craig has been a researcher working in the area of Information visualization and bioinformatics for over 15 years. He completed his PhD, studying the use of Animated Information Visualization for the Exploratory analysis of microarray time-course data, with Professor Jessie Kennedy at Edinburgh Napier University, and has since worked on research projects for the US National Science Foundation, Scottish enterprise, the European Community, the Mexican Conacyt and the Suzhou Local Government in the areas of taxonomy, bioinformatics and intelligent user interfaces. He is currently working on a collaborative research project with an international group of scientists to develop explainable AI interfaces that interpret and help with the analysis of data from bio-chips for antibiotic pollution detection.
